Hossam El Badry, head coach of Libyan side Ahli Tripoli, believes Egypt’s World Cup group with Belgium, Iran and New Zealand is “not easy but balanced,” stressing the need for maximum focus.
He expressed his happiness at Egypt’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup under compatriot Hossam Hassan and wished him success in leading the Pharaohs on the biggest stage.
El Badry highlighted the strength of Belgium and Iran in major tournaments, noting their repeated World Cup appearances and accumulated experience, which he feels demands caution and detailed preparation from Egypt. At the same time, he sees the group as offering a fair chance to compete, provided the team treats every match with seriousness and avoids underestimating any rival.
Turning to his own work, El Badry said he is proud of winning the Libyan league and then lifting the Libyan Cup with Ahli Tripoli after a 3-0 victory over Ahli Benghazi. He revealed that the club is now dreaming of a domestic treble by adding the Libyan Super Cup, thanked the board for its strong backing and looked ahead to facing Ahli Benghazi again in Cairo in the Super Cup final.
