Hossam El Badry linked with Al Ahly return as club searches for new head coach
Former Al Ahly manager Hossam El Badry has been named among the leading candidates to take charge of the Cairo giants following the dismissal of Jose Riveiro.
Riveiro, who previously coached Orlando Pirates, was sacked just four games into the Egyptian Premier League season after managing only one victory.
The position has now been vacant for 22 days, with the club still weighing its options.
Reports from Egypt suggest that El Badry’s past success with Al Ahly has strengthened his chances of a return, particularly as the club struggles to finalize a deal with a foreign coach.
Former Egypt international Ahmed Shoubir has publicly backed El Badry, describing him as the ideal choice if Al Ahly decide to appoint a local manager.
“The Egyptian coach has returned to the picture at Al Ahly, and if you close your eyes, it will be Hossam El Badry,” Shoubir told Yssscores.
“Hossam is currently in Libya, but there are ongoing calls, emails, and communications between him and the club.”
He added: “If the decision is to go with an Egyptian coach, then Hossam El Badry is the strongest candidate. Even Mohamed Youssef, Al Ahly’s sporting director, has confirmed that the Egyptian option is firmly under consideration.”
