Zamalek defender Hossam Abdelmaguid attracts interest from Belgium and Russia amid European transfer links

Zamalek defender Hossam Abdelmaguid has moved to clarify speculation linking him with a shock move to rivals Al Ahly once his current deal expires.

The 23-year-old’s contract with Zamalek runs until the end of next season, having been part of the first team since 2019.

His brother and agent, Islam Abdelmaguid, told ON Sport that there is still no agreement in place over an extension. “As of now, there is no agreement on a contract renewal with the club. Given the current circumstances, it is not the right time to renew the contract; the management is focused on the team, and the player is focused on joining the national team.”

He added that if Zamalek open renewal talks “in the right way,” the player is happy to stay.

Islam stressed that Hossam is not demanding a huge salary but wants a clear path to a move abroad, ideally to a European league. “The player does not have high financial demands; he is willing to renew his contract on the condition that he plays professionally abroad.”

He revealed there are three concrete offers from Europe, including from Ferencváros and Young Boys. While he admitted big Egyptian clubs monitor any standout player, he insisted no local offers have arrived yet, and that Hossam’s priority is to secure an overseas move before thinking about any future step back in Egypt.
