Hoffenheim manager Christian Ilzer has expressed optimism that January signing Gift Orban, who joined from Olympique Lyon, will soon become a fixture in the starting lineup.

Although Orban has only started one match since arriving, Ilzer is confident the young striker is close to securing a permanent spot.

The 9 million euros signing has been introduced into the team gradually, with Ilzer giving him limited minutes off the bench to ease his transition.

Despite his brief appearances, Orban has made an instant impact, finding the net in each of Hoffenheim’s last two Bundesliga games. His clinical finishing and growing confidence have caught the coach’s attention.

Ilzer explained that Orban’s gradual integration is intentional, as he wants the player to fully adapt to the team’s style.

He emphasized the need for strikers like Orban to develop strong chemistry with their teammates, which takes time.

“We’re working on his integration bit by bit, but we’ve already made a lot of progress. He can already do it, but he will be able to help us a lot more in the future.”

As Hoffenheim prepare to face Union Berlin, Ilzer faces a selection dilemma. Orban, along with Erencan Yardımcı and Max Moerstedt, is competing for a starting role.
