Hossam Hassan is on the verge of scripting history with the Egyptian national team, poised to leave a significant mark with the Pharaohs after officially assuming the helm from Portuguese coach Roy Vitoria, who was thanked for the recent decline in the team’s performance at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Golden Opportunity for Hossam Hassan to Enter the Hall of Greats

Hossam Hassan, the new head coach of the Egyptian national team, faces a golden opportunity to enter the pantheon of African football legends during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in 2025 in Morocco.

This opportunity could solidify his name among the continent’s best coaches, putting him on par with the late Mahmoud El-Gohary and Nigerian legend Stephen Keshi, should Egypt emerge victorious in the next AFCON, both as a player and a coach.

Only two individuals have managed to clinch the coveted continental title as both player and coach: the late Mahmoud El-Gohary and Nigerian Stephen Keshi.

El-Gohary secured the title as a player in Egypt’s national team lineup in 1959, while Keshi achieved the feat with Nigeria as a player in 1994 and later as a coach in 2013.

Hossam Hassan’s Glorious AFCON Triumphs as a Player

Hossam Hassan boasts an illustrious record, having lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy three times as a player, in 1986, 1998, and 2006.

If he leads Egypt to victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, he will join the exclusive club alongside Mahmoud El-Gohary and Stephen Keshi, cementing his status as one of the greatest figures in African football history.
