Mansfield Town’s English-born Ghanaian midfielder Hiram Boateng scored a stunning header but was later sent off in a dramatic 3-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at Toughsheet Community Stadium on Tuesday night.
The match started promisingly for the Stags, with Boateng putting them ahead in the 34th minute. His header from a Lucas Akins cross found the top corner, giving Mansfield a surprising lead. However, Bolton responded strongly, leveling the score just 10 minutes later. Dion Charles found the net in the 75th minute, and Victor Adeboyejo put the hosts in front with a close-range strike in the 80th.
Things took a turn for the worse for Mansfield when Boateng was shown a second yellow card in the 70th minute for a bad foul, reducing them to 10 men. Despite their best efforts, Mansfield were unable to hold off Bolton, who sealed the win with a third goal from John McAtee in the 85th minute.
With their defeat, Mansfield now look ahead to their League One clash with Huddersfield Town on December 7th.
