Herve Koffi’s Union Saint-Gilloise face broad Europa League challenge after draw

Union Saint-Gilloise, featuring Burkina Faso goalkeeper Herve Koffi, have discovered their opponents for the league phase of the UEFA Europa League after the draw was held on Friday, 28 August 2026.

The Belgian club will face eight teams from several European leagues during the competition. Among their opponents are Spanish sides Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo, while Lyon will provide another meeting with a club from France.

Union Saint-Gilloise’s league-phase programme will also include matches against Celtic Glasgow, Viktoria Plzen, Lech Poznan, Hapoel Beer Sheva and Besiktas.

The draw gives Union Saint-Gilloise a varied set of fixtures, with opponents representing Spain, France, Scotland, the Czech Republic, Poland, Israel and Turkey. The club’s route through the UEFA Europa League will therefore involve a wide geographical spread of European football.

Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo bring two Spanish challenges to the schedule. Their inclusion means Union Saint-Gilloise will meet two teams from the same national league, while the fixture against Lyon adds a further contest against familiar opposition from France.

The remaining five opponents complete the Belgian side’s eight-match league-phase schedule. Celtic Glasgow will represent Scotland, with Viktoria Plzen coming from the Czech Republic and Lech Poznan from Poland. Hapoel Beer Sheva will be Union Saint-Gilloise’s Israeli opponent, while Besiktas provides the Turkish challenge.

Koffi will be part of the Union Saint-Gilloise squad preparing for those matches. The Burkina Faso international goalkeeper is the only player named in the draw report, which confirms that he and his Belgian club now know the teams standing between them and progress in the competition.

The draw was completed on Friday, 28 August 2026, confirming the eight opponents that Union Saint-Gilloise will face in the league phase. Their campaign will bring together fixtures against clubs from seven different countries, with the Spanish pairing, Lyon and the five remaining teams all forming part of the same European schedule.

Union Saint-Gilloise’s opponents are:

– Real Sociedad – Celta Vigo – Lyon – Celtic Glasgow – Viktoria Plzen – Lech Poznan – Hapoel Beer Sheva – Besiktas

The club now has its full list of league-phase opponents, with Herve Koffi and his team-mates set to take on that eight-team line-up in the UEFA Europa League.
