RC Lens is facing a pivotal decision regarding its goalkeeper position as the club prepares for Brice Samba’s expected departure to Rennes.

With Samba’s exit on the horizon, the spotlight is now on Hervé Koffi, Samba’s current backup, whose future at the club has become increasingly uncertain.

The 27-year-old Burkinabe goalkeeper has failed to convince the club’s decision-makers of his consistency and reliability, leading to growing doubts about his place in the team.

This situation leaves Koffi in a difficult position, as the club seeks to strengthen its defensive lineup ahead of the upcoming season.

According to French sports newspaper L’Équipe, RC Lens sporting director Diego Lopez is actively exploring options to find a new starting goalkeeper.

Among the potential candidates being considered is Ugurcan Çakır, the highly-rated 28-year-old Turkish international who currently plays for Trabzonspor.

Çakır, with 29 international caps, has built a strong reputation in Turkey for his steady performances and impressive experience, making him a strong contender for the position.

However, Lens is reportedly weighing other alternatives as well. One name that has emerged is Alban Lafont, the French goalkeeper currently sidelined at Nantes. I

nsider Mohamed Toubache-Ter has suggested that Lafont could offer an intriguing opportunity, should Lens pursue a move for the 25-year-old, whose potential has been recognized across Europe.

For Koffi, this active search for a new first-choice goalkeeper only deepens his challenges within the club.

Despite his time at Lens, where he has played a limited role, Koffi now finds himself overshadowed by the club’s efforts to fortify its defensive options.

As the search for a new keeper intensifies, it seems that Koffi’s chances of securing a more prominent role at the club are diminishing.

With Lens’ primary focus now on strengthening its squad, particularly in the goalkeeper position, Koffi’s future remains uncertain.

The club’s decision in the coming weeks could determine whether the Burkinabe goalkeeper remains part of their plans or if he will be moved on to make way for a new arrival.
