Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has expressed his desire to retain defender Axel Tuanzebe beyond the current season, highlighting the player’s significant contributions to the team.
The DR Congo international, who joined Ipswich on a free transfer in September 2023, is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
McKenna emphasized the club’s appreciation for Tuanzebe’s performance.
“We think a lot of him and he’s been a very important player for us this season and last season and he’s built himself back up to a good level, we think, of form and robustness and found a good home here.”
The manager acknowledged ongoing efforts to secure Tuanzebe’s future with the club, saying, “Of course, we’re going to try and if that can be possible then I think we’ll be really pleased.”
Tuanzebe’s tenure at Ipswich has seen him become a key figure in the team’s defense, contributing to their competitive performances in the Premier League.
His experience and resilience have been instrumental in the club’s efforts to establish themselves in the top flight.
As discussions continue, McKenna remains hopeful about retaining Tuanzebe, adding, “I think it’s a good place for Axel as well, and let’s see what the next few weeks brings.”
