‘He could’ve lit up the Premier League’ – Patrice Evra surprised Kylian Mbappe stayed away from Liverpool
Former Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra has expressed surprise that Kylian Mbappe never made the move to Liverpool, insisting the French superstar would have been ideally suited to the Premier League champions.
Before completing his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid, Mbappe was linked with a sensational switch to Liverpool, with then-manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly keen on securing the prolific forward.
At the time, the prospect of the France captain plying his trade at Anfield excited fans, given Liverpool’s attacking style and consistent Champions League ambitions.
Speaking to Stake, Evra suggested Mbappe’s attributes would have blended seamlessly with Liverpool’s high-intensity system.
“I was surprised Kylian Mbappe didn’t join Liverpool. He would’ve been a good fit for the club,” Evra said. “But his dream was to play for Real Madrid, like a lot of players. When the Casa Blanca call you, you don’t turn it down.”
Mbappe’s preference for Spain over England has frustrated Premier League supporters eager to see him test himself against the league’s top defenders. Evra, however, acknowledged the pull of Madrid, noting the difficulty in convincing a player to leave a club of Real’s stature once they have committed.
“It would be amazing if he came to the Premier League eventually, he has the physicality and pace for it. It’s difficult to ask someone to leave Real Madrid once they’re there, though,” he added.
The former United defender also emphasized that Mbappe’s style and physical attributes would have made him a standout in England.
