Following the leaked news of Hazim Imam’s resignation, a member of the board of the Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) and the overseer of the national team, questions arise about the fate of the football federation and the national team.
Hazim Imam, who also serves as the supervisor of the Egyptian national team, is reportedly considering submitting his official resignation from the EFA board.
This decision comes in the aftermath of Egypt’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where the team was eliminated in the Round of 16 by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to an insider from the Egyptian Football Federation, speaking exclusively to “Al Watan Sport,” “Hazim Imam has informed both Jamal Alam, the president of the football federation, and his deputy Khaled El-Darandaly, about his intention to formally resign after returning from Ivory Coast.”
The source also revealed that “there are discussions among the members of the EFA board regarding the possibility of collective resignations after Egypt’s national team bid farewell to the Africa Cup.”
The source further added, “Everyone in the football federation and the national team has been assured not to submit any resignations until after the anticipated meeting between the EFA board and Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports.
This meeting is expected to finalize the fate of the current board and the coaching staff of the Pharaohs, making decisions that solely serve Egyptian football.”
