Egyptian football icon Hassan Shehata is currently recovering after undergoing urgent surgery on Monday, following a sudden health issue.
The unexpected news has sent waves of concern across the football world.
The update came from former Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan, who shared the information on his official Facebook page. “Wishing the great coach Hassan Shehata a speedy recovery,” he wrote, without providing further details about the illness or the 76-year-old’s current condition.
Shehata is one of the most celebrated figures in African football history. As head coach of the Egyptian national team, he guided the Pharaohs to a historic hat-trick of Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2006, 2008, and 2010.
Beyond his time with the national team, Shehata also managed top sides like Zamalek, El Mokawloon El Arab, Qatar’s Al Arabi, and Morocco’s Difaa El Jadida. His last coaching job was with Petrojet in 2017.
In recent years, he stepped away from the dugout, serving as a sports advisor to Austria’s Mauerwerk and appearing as a pundit on television.
Fans continue to send warm wishes, hoping for his full recovery.
