Hassan Shehata, the legendary coach who guided Egypt to three straight AFCON titles, is recovering well after a brief hospital stay.
The 75-year-old football icon was discharged this afternoon following surgery on his bile duct. Former Zamalek star Tarek Yehia shared the update, confirming Shehata’s stable condition after suffering from jaundice in recent weeks.
“Shehata underwent surgery on his bile duct after suffering from jaundice in recent weeks,” Yehia said in a radio interview.
“The coach left the hospital this afternoon and his condition is stable, but he needs more rest.”
Support for Shehata poured in from across Egyptian football. Yehia added, “Egyptian football stars and icons supported Egyptian football icon Hassan Shehata.”
The Egyptian Football Association, Zamalek, and Al Ahly all extended their well wishes to the coach who once brought unmatched glory to the Pharaohs in 2006, 2008, and 2010.
