Hassan Shehata, former head coach of the Egyptian national team, has criticized the Egyptian Football Association for its approach to selecting the national team’s head coach.
In a televised statement on MBC Egypt, Shehata remarked, “We keep bringing in coaches, and in the end, they turn out to be unsuitable for coaching the Egyptian national team.”
He added, “We cannot allow this to happen, but it’s us who are causing it. We bring in any coach, agree to any coach, and in the end, we find that we made a mistake in the selection process.”
He emphasized, “The responsibility lies with the Football Association and the general supervisor of the national team.”
Shehata concluded, “There are many mistakes in the way the Egyptian national team plays that we won’t discuss at the moment.
I hope there won’t be mistakes in the Congo match, whether in the lineup or the strategy.”
The Egyptian national team is set to face Congo in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tomorrow, Sunday, at 10:00 PM.
The comments from the respected former coach shed light on ongoing concerns regarding the coaching selection process and the team’s performance ahead of a crucial match in the tournament.
