Hassan Shehata hails revival of Egyptian coaching identity under Hossam Hassan ahead of 2026 World Cup
Egyptian football icon Hassan Shehata has praised the impact of current national team coach Hossam Hassan, saying the Pharaohs are experiencing a renewed sense of belief and technical stability as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Shehata, a former Zamalek star and one of Africa’s most decorated coaches, said the national team setup is witnessing a positive shift under the leadership of Hossam Hassan, crediting the coaching staff for recent progress and improved confidence within the squad.
Speaking during a television interview, Shehata noted that Egyptian football has enjoyed success across different generations, but stressed that the current era reflects a resurgence in respect for the local coach and his role at the highest level.
“All eyes are now on the 2026 World Cup,” he indicated, highlighting Egypt’s preparations for the tournament set to be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Pharaohs are expected to compete in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.
