Harry Kane says his family is becoming increasingly anxious as he waits to discover whether he has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
The Bayern Munich striker is among the leading contenders for football’s most prestigious individual award after an outstanding start to the season. Kane scored and created seven goals in 11 appearances in all competitions before starring in Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League.
Asked after the match about his chances of lifting the prize at Monday’s ceremony, Kane admitted he was eager to learn the outcome.
“Of course, I appreciate every message I receive and all the support from the fans – the Bayern Munich, England and Tottenham supporters,” he said, according to Foot Mercato.
“Clearly, Monday night could be a special night.”
Kane is attempting to remain focused on Bayern’s upcoming fixtures, but acknowledged that the uncertainty surrounding the result has been difficult, particularly for those closest to him.
“I know it is an important event, so I am really looking forward to it,” he said. “I think my wife would prefer to know the result, and my family are very tense.”
The England captain understands why the organisers keep the result secret until the ceremony, allowing all the shortlisted players to attend. However, he admitted he would rather not have to wait throughout the evening.
“I understand they want to keep it quiet so all the stars can be there, but from my point of view, of course I would like to know the result without having to wait all evening,” Kane added.
“There is nothing I can do except enjoy the moment.”
Kane reveals career ambition
Kane also discussed the award during an appearance for CBS Sports, where he spoke directly to former France striker Thierry Henry about his hopes.
Although speculation over the likely winner has increased, Kane sought to play down his expectations while making clear how much the honour would mean to him.
“It would be incredible. The result? I do not know,” he said. “I know there are a lot of rumours going around at the moment, but I do not know.”
He added: “Obviously, I really hope something like this happens. It would be a huge step in my career, that is for sure.”
Kane faces strong competition for the award, with several of the world’s leading players also in contention.
Barcelona’s emerging star Lamine Yamal, Paris Saint-Germain forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, experienced midfielder Rodri and Fabian Ruiz remain among the candidates.
The French contingent includes Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise, further intensifying the battle for the individual prize.
