Harry Kane leaves door open to future La Liga move

Harry Kane says he would not rule out playing in La Liga during his career, while revealing that talks about a possible move to a Spanish club have taken place in the past.

The Bayern Munich striker was speaking ahead of England’s Nations League meeting with Spain at Wembley, and also discussed his admiration for the leading clubs in Spanish football.

“There were moments when it actually happened,” Kane said when asked whether he had come close to moving to La Liga. “I cannot say they were clear opportunities, but there were some conversations in the past.”

Kane, who has been linked with interest from Spain during his career, said he held La Liga and its biggest clubs in particularly high regard.

“I have a lot of respect for La Liga,” he added. “Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid are some of the biggest clubs in the world. I grew up watching Ronaldo and Messi, and I have an enormous amount of respect for those clubs.”

The England captain said that, although he remained open to the possibility of a future move, his immediate focus was on life in Germany.

“We all know anything can happen in football,” Kane said. “I would not rule anything out at all, but at the moment, as I have said before, I am very happy in Germany.”

Kane expects tough Spain test

Kane also looked ahead to England’s Nations League fixture against Spain at Wembley, describing the visitors as a formidable opponent.

“It will be a difficult match,” he said. “Spain are the current European champions and world champions.”

England have come close to Spain in recent years, Kane said, but had not managed to complete their challenge when it mattered most.

“We have been very close to them over the last few years, but Spain have been the team that managed to reach the end, while we did not,” he said. “We have a great deal of respect for them.”

Despite the challenge, Kane believes the fixture offers England an opportunity to make a strong start in the competition. Spain won the Nations League two years ago, a success he said helped them reach their current level.

“It is also a chance for us to get off to a good start in the Nations League,” Kane said. “Spain won the competition two years ago, and that helped them later reach the level they are at now.”

For England, the tournament could provide an important opportunity to end a long wait for silverware, Kane added.

“For England, it is a mirror for us,” he said. “We have not won a trophy for a very long time, and perhaps we can do that this year through the Nations League.”

Success could also benefit England ahead of Euro 2028, which will be held on home soil. Kane remains eager to face Spain, despite their ability to dominate possession and the quality available to them.

“It could help us before Euro 2028, which will be played on our home ground,” he said. “But yes, the match against Spain will be difficult because of the way they keep the ball and the players they have. I am very excited to play in it.”
