Happy Mashiane closing in on Siwelele deal after impressing in training

Siwelele FC are considering a permanent contract for former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Happy Mashiane, with administrative issues the only remaining obstacle to an agreement.

The 29-year-old has been training with the Bloemfontein-based club since the recent FIFA international break as he attempts to rebuild his career after leaving Kaizer Chiefs.

Siwelele are seeking a replacement at left wing-back following Neo Rapoo’s move to Orlando Pirates during the recent transfer window. Mashiane, who spent last season on loan at the club, could now offer experience as Siwelele continue their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

Interim coach Godfrey Moseatsa said Mashiane had made a positive impression in training, but explained that discussions between the club’s management and the player’s representatives still need to be completed.

“Yeah, he started training with us during the FIFA break, and he has been training very well,” Moseatsa said at the 2026 Carling Knockout Cup draw in Fourways on Wednesday night.

“There’s just certain things that need to be sorted out administratively, and then we will take it from there, but we cannot deny the fact that he’s a very good player who’s got PSL experience.

“He played for Kaizer Chiefs while he was still young. So he has a lot to offer, but it also lies with what happens behind the scenes with management and his agent sorting out any other outstanding issues.”

Mashiane left Kaizer Chiefs during the off-season after the two parties agreed to terminate his contract, ending a seven-year spell with the Soweto club.

He progressed through Kaizer Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge side before joining the senior team in 2019. His first professional contract was signed under then-head coach Ernst Middendorp.

The defender was unable to establish himself as a regular starter in the seasons that followed and spent the previous campaign at Siwelele on loan in an effort to secure more playing time.

His chances were restricted, however, as Rapoo became the club’s preferred option at left-back before joining Orlando Pirates.

Mashiane made 69 appearances in all competitions for Kaizer Chiefs, scoring four goals and providing five assists during his time at Naturena.

Rapoo’s departure has created an opening in the Siwelele squad, giving Mashiane the chance to earn another Premiership contract.

That opportunity remains dependent on the outstanding administrative matters being settled. Moseatsa has nevertheless made clear that Siwelele value the experience the former Kaizer Chiefs defender could bring to the team.
