FIFA Council member Hany Abo Rida is poised to make a remarkable comeback as the President of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
With the candidacy period for the upcoming board elections closing on Saturday, November 16, 2024, Abo Rida emerged as the sole candidate for the position, solidifying his path to leadership.
The elections are scheduled for December 10, yet his unopposed status signals a unanimous consensus among Egyptian football stakeholders.
Abo Rida’s return to the EFA presidency marks a significant moment for Egyptian football.
Known for his deep-rooted connections within FIFA and his extensive experience in football administration, Abo Rida has long been a prominent figure on both the domestic and international stage.
His leadership is expected to bring stability and renewed focus to the EFA, aligning with Egypt’s aspirations for global football prominence.
As the head of the only list of nominations submitted for the EFA Board elections, Abo Rida’s team will likely steer the federation towards key priorities, including the development of grassroots football.
Also, he is expected to enhance league competitiveness, and strengthening Egypt’s position in continental and global competitions.
Abo Rida previously became the president of Egyptian Football Association from 2016 to 2019.
The 71-year-old was pressured by the public to resign from his presidential position, after Egypt’s AFCON 2019 loss against South Africa, which he did on July 6, 2019.
