Hannover 96 linked with Hamburg midfielder Kofi Amoako

German-Ghanaian midfielder Kofi Amoako could leave Hamburg for Hannover 96 in a rumoured move between two German clubs, with Hannover competing in the 2. Bundesliga and his current side in the Bundesliga.

Amoako, 21, joined Hamburg from Dynamo Dresden on 1 July 2026 in a transfer reported at €1.8m. He has made one Bundesliga appearance for Hamburg this season, playing three minutes, and has not featured in the DFB-Pokal.

The defensive midfielder is valued at €4m and is under contract with Hamburg until 30 June 2030. Any move would therefore involve a player who signed a long-term deal only a few months ago.

Hannover would represent a return to the city where Amoako was born. He began his youth career with Hannover before moving to Wolfsburg in 2019, progressing through the club’s academy and making his senior breakthrough there.

Amoako spent part of the 2024-25 season on loan at VfL Osnabruck before joining Dynamo Dresden permanently in July 2025. He moved to Hamburg after one season in Dresden.

He has been listed with both German and Ghanaian nationality. His limited playing time at Hamburg this season provides the immediate context for speculation over a possible move, although the rumour remains unconfirmed.
