Hannibal: Burnley and Tunisia midfielder linked with Marseille move in Ligue 1 switch

Hannibal, the Tunisia international midfielder currently at Burnley, is being linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Marseille as the French club explore options to strengthen their attacking midfield this summer.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Ivry-sur-Seine and holds both Tunisian and French nationality, is under contract at Burnley until 30 June 2028, meaning any deal would require Marseille to negotiate a fee with the Championship club. Hannibal is currently valued at around €15 million, a figure that is expected to frame any talks between the clubs.

Hannibal joined Burnley on 28 August 2024 and has experienced both promotion to the top flight in the 2024-25 season and relegation back to the Championship in 2025-26. His situation following Burnley’s drop from the Premier League has increased speculation over his future, with Marseille monitoring players who could be available from relegated sides.

On the international stage, Hannibal featured prominently at the 2026 World Cup, starting all three of Tunisia’s matches and providing two assists. His role as a consistent starter at the tournament has helped maintain his profile in European markets.

The attacking midfielder, who plays primarily through the middle and is right-footed, wears the number 28 shirt at Burnley. Having already won the FA Cup in 2024 with Manchester United before his move to Turf Moor, he has experience of major competitions that would appeal to a club competing at the top end of Ligue 1.

For now, Hannibal remains a Burnley player with two years gone on a four-year deal, leaving the Championship side in a strong contractual position should Marseille decide to turn their interest into a formal offer.
