Hamza Abdelkarim keen on Barcelona stay after hat-trick heroics
Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim has suggested he could remain at FC Barcelona beyond the current season following a standout performance with the club’s youth side.
The young striker delivered a remarkable display in Barcelona’s 9-0 victory over AS Monaco youth team in the final round of the domestic championship, scoring a hat-trick in just 15 minutes in what has been described as his finest performance since arriving at the club.
Speaking after the match in comments shared by Achraf Ben Ayad, Abdelkarim reflected on his journey since joining the team mid-season.
“Thank God. It’s a beautiful feeling, of course. The whole team has been working hard since the beginning of the season, and perhaps I joined them in the middle of the season,” he said.
He continued, “Since I joined, the team has welcomed me well. Adapting at first wasn’t the fastest thing, but over time I learned how to adapt.”
The striker also highlighted the tactical adjustments he had to make after arriving from Egypt, pointing to the differences in playing style.
“The team’s style of play is different from what I was used to in Egypt, so I had to adapt in order to reach this stage. I am happy and I want more, and I am happy that I will continue as well.”
Reflecting on his hat-trick, he added, “Thank God for the three goals. The players have helped me in training since the beginning of the week, and they know where my strengths lie, and we knew how to play to them. It could have been 4 or 5 goals, but thank God of course.”
His statement, particularly the phrase “I am happy that I will continue as well,” has been interpreted by Spanish media as a strong indication that Barcelona intend to keep him. Reports suggest the club is preparing to activate the purchase clause in his loan deal from Al Ahly SC.
According to Sport, Barcelona have already informed the player of their intention to make the move permanent, with plans to integrate him into Barcelona Atlètic for further development before assessing his readiness for a future step up to the first team.
Financially, the deal is expected to see Al Ahly receive around €1.5 million, with performance-related bonuses potentially raising the total to €5 million. The Egyptian club is also set to retain a 15 percent sell-on clause, securing a share of any future transfer.
With his rapid progress and growing confidence, Abdelkarim’s future now appears increasingly tied to Barcelona as he continues his development within one of Europe’s top football systems.
