Egypt release Hamza Abdelkarim from upcoming U20 training camp

Young Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim will not take part in the upcoming training camp of the Egypt U20 national team, after the coaching staff decided to allow the player to remain with his club during the March international break.

The decision was taken by technical director Wael Riad, who authorised the striker’s release so he can continue his commitments with FC Barcelona U19.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed that Abdelkarim will be excused from the national team gathering scheduled between 23 and 31 March.

During that period, the youth national side – often referred to as the Young Pharaohs – are expected to play two friendly matches as part of their preparations.

Officials said the decision was made in consultation with the coaching staff as part of a broader effort to carefully manage the development of young Egyptian footballers based overseas.

Allowing Abdelkarim to remain in Spain means the striker will continue training and competing with Barcelona’s youth team during a period when the club still has official fixtures to play.

The move is intended to help maintain his physical condition and sustain his technical progress in a competitive environment.

The national team’s coaching staff are understood to be closely following the player’s progress.

According to the Egyptian federation, Riad personally contacted Abdelkarim to congratulate him on his recent performances.

The striker has been attracting attention after a strong display in his most recent appearance for Barcelona’s under-19 side, where he scored a goal and also won a penalty during the match.

Information shared with the Egyptian technical staff also indicates that Abdelkarim could soon be given an opportunity to feature for the Spanish club’s reserve team.

Such a step would represent another important stage in the young forward’s development and expose him to a higher level of competition in European football.

By allowing the striker to remain with his club during the international break, Egypt’s coaching staff signalled their intention to prioritise the long-term growth of emerging players.

While Abdelkarim will miss the upcoming training camp and friendly matches, the federation emphasised that his progress abroad continues to be monitored closely as part of the national team’s plans for the future.
