Hamed Junior Traoré faces uncertain Marseille future despite permanent deal
Ivorian midfielder Hamed Junior Traoré faces an uncertain future at Olympique de Marseille despite the club recently making his transfer permanent.
Marseille moved to secure the 25-year-old on a long-term deal, activating a purchase option reported to be worth €7.5 million and tying him to the club until 2030.
The decision underlined the club’s initial confidence in the player’s potential to play a key role in their midfield.
However, his first full season in France has not unfolded as expected. Traoré struggled to establish himself within the team, with his progress significantly disrupted by a thigh injury that kept him out of action for more than three months.
That setback limited his overall contribution during the campaign, with the midfielder making 19 appearances across all competitions.
In that time, he registered three goals and two assists, a return that falls short of the expectations that accompanied his arrival.
His difficulties have raised questions within the club regarding his role moving forward. While Marseille demonstrated faith by completing the permanent transfer, his on-field impact has yet to match that commitment, leaving uncertainty over whether he will remain part of the long-term project.
Traoré’s situation is further complicated by the competitive environment within the squad, where consistent performances are essential to secure a place in the starting line-up.
His inability to maintain continuity due to injury has made it harder for him to build momentum and fully integrate into the team’s system.
As the club begins to assess its options ahead of the next transfer window, a decision will need to be made regarding the midfielder’s future.
Marseille must weigh whether to allow him additional time to regain form and fitness or to consider alternative solutions, including a possible departure.
Despite the clarity of his contractual situation, the uncertainty surrounding his sporting future remains unresolved.
Traoré’s next steps will likely depend on both his physical condition and the club’s strategic direction as they look to strengthen their squad.
For now, the Ivorian international finds himself at a crossroads, with his long-term place at Marseille far from guaranteed despite the club’s financial commitment.
