Hamdy Fathy is on the verge of making a return to Egyptian football, with Pyramids FC pushing to seal his transfer from Qatari side Al-Wakrah.
Talks between the two clubs have moved fast in recent hours, bringing the 30-year-old midfielder closer to a homecoming.
The move gained momentum after an agent contacted Pyramids to reveal Fathy’s wish to return to Egypt due to personal reasons. That message reignited interest from Pyramids, who had earlier moved on from the player.
With no other Egyptian clubs making offers, Fathy was quick to accept Pyramids’ proposal. Club officials then made an official approach to Al-Wakrah, which has led to near-final terms being discussed between both sides.
“Hamdy Fathy is a great player and his desire to return to the Egyptian Premier League makes him a strong candidate to join the team,” a source at Pyramids FC told Kooora.
Fathy previously starred for Al Ahly from January 2019 to July 2023 before his move to Al-Wakrah. He also featured for Al Ahly during the 2025 Club World Cup on loan.
