Eyes Move Abroad Amid Turkish Interest
Hamdi Harbaoui After finishing as the top scorer in the 2013/2014 Jupiler Pro League with Lokeren, Tunisian striker Hamdi Harbaoui has openly expressed his ambition to join a bigger club. However, his future remains uncertain as multiple suitors show interest.
Long linked with a move to Standard Liège, Harbaoui may now be heading to Turkey instead. According to reports from the Turkish press, Konyaspor has submitted an offer for the prolific striker. The Turkish club, having missed out on Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins, is keen to bolster its attack with the Tunisian international. Harbaoui, who netted 22 goals last season in Belgium, is currently contracted to Lokeren until 2016.
Belgian giants Anderlecht and Standard Liège are also reportedly monitoring the situation, but Harbaoui appears to be leaning toward a move abroad. His impressive tally last season made him the top African scorer in European leagues, surpassing notable talents like Congolese forward Michy Batshuayi.
Lokeren will face the challenge of replacing their leading marksman should the transfer materialize. Konyaspor, who were promoted to Turkey’s top-flight Spor Toto Super Lig at the conclusion of the 2012-2013 season, are eager to strengthen their squad with the addition of Harbaoui, who could swiftly agree to the move.
The coming weeks will reveal whether the Tunisian striker will embark on a new chapter in the Turkish league or remain in Belgium to continue his prolific scoring.
