German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV are considering a summer move to sign France-born defender of Congolese descent, Joseph Kalulu.
The German club made a number of calculated additions during the winter transfer window, but the left-back position remained an area of concern.
HSV had initially planned to bring in Almugera Kabar on loan from Borussia Dortmund, yet the move collapsed after it became clear the young defender would not be ready to contribute immediately.
With that plan falling through, attention has now shifted firmly to the summer window, where Hamburg are determined to revisit their squad-building strategy.
According to the Hamburger Abendblatt, several names are being monitored, with Kalulu emerging as a serious candidate.
The Pau FC defender, who is the brother of Juventus centre-back Pierre Kalulu, had already been discussed internally during the winter period, but the limited time available prevented any deal from being completed.
Kalulu currently plays in France’s second division with Pau FC and remains under contract until 2027.
However, without a renewal, next summer could represent an ideal opportunity for the French club to cash in. His progress has reportedly been viewed positively in Hamburg, where club officials believe he could add both depth and competition on the left side of defence.
There is also the possibility that HSV may look to sign more than one left-back during the summer, particularly if Miro Muheim departs the club.
As preparations continue behind the scenes, Joseph Kalulu remains firmly on the radar as Hamburg shape their plans for the next phase of their rebuild.
