Scheduled to join Hamburg this summer, Johan Djourou might be absent from the initial matches of his new club due to a recent groin surgery. The Swiss central defender, on loan from Arsenal, underwent the operation on Tuesday.
As a result of the surgery, Djourou is unlikely to have fully recovered in time for Hamburg’s first-round German Cup clash against Schott Jena on August 4. Furthermore, his availability for the opening Bundesliga match against Schalke 04 on August 11 remains uncertain.
