Hamburg director Claus Costa backs Terem Moffi to make big Bundesliga impact

Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa believes Nigeria striker Terem Moffi has the qualities to make a major impact in the Bundesliga after completing his permanent move to the German club.

Moffi joined Hamburg from Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on Monday, adding another attacking option to the squad as the club prepares for the new Bundesliga campaign.

Costa is convinced the 27-year-old’s physical strength, determination and eye for goal can make him a difficult proposition for defenders in Germany’s top flight.

“We are delighted to have secured the signing of Terem. Terem is a striker who is difficult to contain due to his physicality, determination, and playing style,” Costa told Hamburg’s website.

The sporting director believes Moffi offers Hamburg more than just a traditional goalscoring threat, highlighting his ability to exploit space behind defences while also operating effectively with his back to goal.

Hamburg expect goals and versatility

Moffi’s movement and presence inside the penalty area are among the qualities Costa expects to strengthen Hamburg’s attack.

“He is capable of making runs in behind the defense, has a tremendous presence in the penalty area, and possesses the necessary quality with his back to goal,” he added.

Costa also expects the Nigerian’s arrival to increase the tactical options available to Hamburg, with the club hoping his attacking qualities can provide an additional edge throughout the season.

“We are convinced that Terem will add extra firepower to our game and thus further enhance the versatility of our squad,” Costa said.

The club’s immediate priority will now be ensuring Moffi settles quickly into his new surroundings and develops an understanding with his teammates before the Bundesliga campaign begins.

“Now, the task is to integrate him quickly so that we can start the new Bundesliga season as a team with plenty of energy and confidence.”

Moffi brings top-level experience

Moffi arrives in Germany with considerable experience accumulated across a career that has taken him through six different countries.

The striker has made 228 club appearances, scoring 88 goals and providing 13 assists. He has also established himself as an important option for Nigeria, contributing six goals and two assists in 23 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Hamburg will now hope that record translates into goals in Germany as Moffi prepares for a new challenge in the Bundesliga.

His combination of strength, movement and finishing ability has already earned the confidence of the club’s sporting director, who expects the Nigerian to become a significant attacking weapon for Hamburg.
