Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech is expected to receive a special welcome from Botafogo supporters as he arrives in Brazil to complete his move to the Brazilian club.

Fans have been called upon to gather at Galeão Airport on Tuesday evening to welcome the former Wydad Casablanca player, who is set to begin the next chapter of his career in South American football.

Botafogo supporters plan airport celebration

A Botafogo supporters’ group issued a call on social media urging fans to turn out in large numbers for Ziyech’s arrival.

The group wrote: “Tomorrow we will all be together at Galeao Airport to welcome the newest player in Botafogo’s ranks!”

It added: “All fan groups together, we invite you to come to the airport starting at 18:00, to create a wonderful atmosphere and a beautiful celebration together.”

The planned reception underlines the excitement surrounding the arrival of one of Morocco’s most recognisable footballers.

Ziyech leaves Wydad after brief spell

Ziyech’s expected move to Botafogo comes shortly after his departure from Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.

Wydad announced on Sunday that they had reached an agreement with the Moroccan international to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

The Casablanca-based club said Ziyech’s spell with the side did not last as long as either party had initially hoped.

New chapter for Moroccan star

Wydad nevertheless expressed its appreciation for Ziyech and acknowledged the significance of representing the club for both the player and its supporters.

The move to Botafogo would mark a new chapter in the career of the Moroccan international and take one of Africa’s most prominent footballers to Brazil, where supporters are already preparing to give “The Magician” a memorable reception.
