Hakim Ziyech set for Botafogo move after leaving Wydad Casablanca

Hakim Ziyech is expected to continue his career in Brazil, with Botafogo reportedly preparing a contract for the former Chelsea player after his departure from Wydad Casablanca.

Several Brazilian outlets, including the respected newspaper O Globo, say Botafogo want to sign the 33-year-old left-footed attacker. The club are understood to be relying on Ziyech agreeing to join them, although the precise state of negotiations remains unclear.

Ziyech ended his contract with Wydad Casablanca last weekend, making him available to take on a new challenge. The former Morocco international is now expected in Brazil at the start of the week for a medical examination.

A deal running until the end of 2027 has reportedly been prepared. However, the move has not yet been confirmed and remains subject to the medical and any further developments in the negotiations.

Ziyech had initially been expected to be involved in Wydad Casablanca’s league match against Palmeiras on Sunday. His anticipated arrival in Brazil instead suggests his next step could come in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, where Botafogo are seeking to add a player with extensive experience in European football.

The proposed move would bring another high-profile name to Brazil’s domestic league. Memphis Depay recently extended his contract with Corinthians after appearing likely to leave the club. Depay is the Netherlands’ all-time leading goalscorer.

For Ziyech, a move to Botafogo would represent his third spell outside Europe. Following his time with Chelsea and Galatasaray, he played in Qatar for Al-Duhail before joining Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.

His time at Wydad began with a period of adaptation, but he finished last season with nine goals in 16 appearances. His most recent appearance came in June.

Ziyech established his reputation during his time in the Eredivisie before moving to Chelsea. The technically gifted playmaker has also represented Morocco at international level and is known for his left foot and creative qualities.

Despite the reports from Brazil, there is still uncertainty over whether the transfer will be completed. Botafogo’s interest is clear, but the final outcome will depend on the negotiations, Ziyech’s medical and whether any further unexpected complications arise.
