Hakim Ziyech agrees move to Botafogo until 2028

Hakim Ziyech has officially joined Brazilian club Botafogo, signing a contract that runs until 31 December 2028.

The Morocco international, 33, leaves African football after agreeing to continue his career in Brazil with a side currently 14th in the Brazilian championship. The move follows earlier reports that Botafogo had emerged as a possible destination for the left-footed player.

Ziyech spent the latest stage of his career at Wydad Casablanca, where he made 16 appearances and scored nine goals. The former Chelsea player made a positive impression during that spell but took several days to consider Botafogo’s offer before committing to the move.

After initially hesitating, Ziyech eventually gave the Brazilian club his approval and will now attempt to establish himself in a new footballing environment. His transfer represents a significant change of direction for a player who has previously featured in European football and represented Morocco internationally.

According to Transfermarkt, Ziyech’s current market value is estimated at 2.2m euros. His immediate objective will be to settle quickly and compete for a place in the Botafogo team.

Botafogo are due to face Bragantino in their 27th match of the Brazilian championship. The published odds for the game list a Botafogo win at 2.10, a draw at 3.20 and a Bragantino victory at 2.85.
