Haitham Hassan set for Celtic debut as Scottish fixtures and free-to-air coverage confirmed

Haitham Hassan is set to begin his Celtic career after the Scottish club officially announced his signing from Spanish side Real Oviedo.

The Egypt international has agreed a four-year contract with Celtic, with the club holding the option to extend the deal by a further season. Sky previously reported that the transfer was worth £6m, with a further £3m available in additional bonuses.

A significant proportion of those bonuses is expected to be paid if Celtic reach the Champions League group stage later this month.

Hassan’s first competitive opportunities with his new club will come during a busy period, with Celtic involved in the Scottish League Cup and the Champions League qualifying play-off round before returning to league action.

Celtic’s next fixture is against Dundee United on Saturday, 15 August, in the Scottish League Cup. The club currently sit top of the Scottish league in the new season, having collected six points from their opening two matches.

They will then face Austrian club LASK over two legs in the Champions League play-off round, with the matches scheduled for 19 and 25 August.

Celtic’s next Scottish league match is against Falkirk on 29 August, with kick-off at 17:00 Egypt time.

All Scottish league and cup matches will be broadcast by free-to-air Sharjah Sports Channel, giving supporters access to Celtic’s domestic fixtures as Hassan begins his time in Scotland.

The 2026 World Cup provided Hassan with a prominent international platform before his move. He played twice for Egypt during the tournament, setting up a goal against Argentina. He also played a major part in another goal with an impressive contribution, although the effort was ruled out after a video assistant referee review.

At club level, Hassan helped Real Oviedo secure promotion to Spain’s top flight. Their stay in the division lasted only one season, however, as the team were relegated back to the second tier.

Hassan made 38 appearances for Real Oviedo last season. He created three goals during that campaign but did not score.

His move to Celtic now brings a new chapter, with the player joining a side that have started the Scottish season with two wins and face an immediate test in domestic cup and European competition. The schedule means Hassan could quickly be involved in important matches, beginning with Dundee United before Celtic’s two-legged meeting with LASK.

The Scottish club’s European progress could also have a direct impact on the financial terms of the transfer, given that around £3m of the reported add-ons are linked to qualification for the Champions League group stage.
