Haitham Hassan to join Egypt national team camp after successful talks

Winger Haitham Hassan will join the upcoming training camp of the Egyptian national team in March after the Egyptian Football Association confirmed that its efforts to convince the 24-year-old Real Oviedo player to represent the country have been successful.

The decision follows a period of discussions between federation officials and the player’s family, eventually resulting in an agreement for Hassan to become part of the squad preparing for the next international gathering.

Wassim Ahmed, a member of the federation’s Professional Committee, said the organisation had been working for some time to secure the winger’s commitment to the national team.

Speaking on the programme “Stadium On” broadcast on On Sport, Ahmed explained that communication with the player had taken place during the negotiations.

He said a call was arranged between national team coach Ibrahim Hassan and Mohamed Abu Hussein, a member of the federation’s board, during which they spoke directly with Hassan and his father.

The discussion was coordinated by Hany Abo Rida, and Ahmed said the talks produced a positive outcome.

As a result, the winger agreed to take part in the national team’s training camp scheduled for next month.

Ahmed also revealed that he had been in regular contact with the player’s family during the most recent Africa Cup of Nations, which was staged in Morocco.

According to the official, those discussions helped secure the family’s approval for Hassan to join the national side.

He also dismissed speculation that the winger had requested financial compensation in order to represent Egypt.

Ahmed insisted that Hassan had not asked for any payment to play for the Pharaohs, explaining that the player had instead focused on understanding the sporting project presented by the national team.

Such discussions, he added, are common when dealing with footballers who are eligible to represent more than one country, as they typically seek clarity about the team’s plans before committing their international future.

The federation has also been working to integrate Mohamed El-Bay, who plays for Club Brugge, into the training camp of Egypt’s youth national team.

Meanwhile, discussions regarding the possible inclusion of Karim Ahmed in the senior national squad have been postponed for the time being.
