Haissem Hassan completes medical ahead of Celtic move from Oviedo

Haissem Hassan has completed his medical in London and is expected to travel to Glasgow shortly to finalise a move to Celtic, according to Sky.

The Egypt international is set to sign a four-year contract with the Scottish club, which will include an option to extend the agreement by a further year.

Celtic will pay an initial £6m for Hassan, with a further £3m potentially due in additional bonuses. A significant proportion of those performance-related payments will become payable if Celtic qualify for the group stage of the Champions League later this month.

The Scottish champions are hoping to register Hassan quickly enough for him to be included in their squad for Wednesday’s first leg of their Champions League qualifying play-off against Austrian side LASK.

The winner of that tie will progress to the main stage of the Champions League.

Celtic have made a perfect start to the new Scottish Premiership season and sit top of the table with six points from their opening two matches.

Hassan’s proposed move follows a significant campaign for both the player and Real Oviedo. He helped Oviedo secure promotion to Spain’s top flight, although the club were relegated back to the second tier after just one season.

The 24-year-old made 38 appearances for Oviedo last season, providing three assists but failing to score.

Hassan also represented Egypt twice at the 2026 World Cup. He created a goal against Argentina and was involved in another impressive attacking move, although that goal was disallowed following a video assistant referee review.

Celtic’s desire to complete the transfer swiftly reflects the importance of their Champions League campaign. The club are seeking to ensure Hassan is available for the opening leg against LASK as they attempt to reach the competition’s main phase.

The Scotland-based side began their domestic season with two victories and will now turn their attention to European qualification, with the first leg against LASK scheduled for Wednesday.

For Hassan, the move would represent a return to top-level football after Oviedo’s immediate relegation from La Liga. The proposed deal is expected to be completed once the final formalities are concluded following his medical and arrival in Glasgow.
