Habib Diallo ruled out of Senegal squad ahead of Brazil friendly

Senegal face a major setback ahead of their high-profile friendly against Brazil, with striker Habib Diallo ruled out due to injury.

The 30-year-old forward, who scored Senegal’s final goal in their recent victory over Mauritania, left the squad after sustaining an injury in his last club appearance, according to journalist Ibou Sentopteam.

Diallo had returned to the national team during the October international break and impressed with his attacking form.

His inclusion in the November squad highlighted both his return to top form and his strong motivation to contribute to Senegal’s campaigns.

The forward has openly expressed his ambition to represent Senegal at major tournaments.

Speaking after returning to his club, Diallo said: “Everyone would love to represent their country at the World Cup, the AFCON, or the Euros. Everyone’s aiming for that. I haven’t yet had the chance to participate in the World Cup. During the last World Cup, I went through the qualifiers and everything, but I didn’t go. So I’d really like to, even if it’s the coach who decides.”

His absence represents a significant blow for Senegal as they prepare to face Brazil.

Diallo’s pace, finishing, and experience in international matches had made him a key option for head coach Aliou Cissé.

Despite this setback, there is confidence that Diallo will return stronger.

The striker has scored eight goals for the senior national team, including a goal against Brazil in Senegal’s 4–2 victory in June 2023.

His determination and professionalism suggest he will reclaim his place once fully fit.

Senegal now faces the challenge of adjusting their attack ahead of the friendly, but Diallo’s track record ensures he remains a central figure in the team’s plans for upcoming tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup.
