Habib Beye urges Marseille to seize Europa League chance
Habib Beye has made it clear that Olympique Marseille cannot afford to underestimate the Europa League as they push to secure European football for next season.
The Olympique Marseille head coach says his side must deliver a complete performance in a decisive clash that could define their continental future.
“We’ll need to play a great match. There’s a European spot at stake, and it’s a team in top form. We’ll need consistency, solidarity, and to be better in our play,” he explained. Beye believes home advantage can be crucial but warns that “if we’re just average, it won’t be enough” and demands the same spirit his players showed against Le Havre.
For Beye, playing in Europe is part of Marseille’s identity. “When you’re OM, you have to play in European competitions. It won’t be the Champions League, but we can’t take the Europa League lightly. It’s not a second-rate competition,” he insisted, adding that it is important for French clubs to be visible in Europe.
He wants his squad to attack the challenge “with a lot of hunger,” refusing any notion that treating the Europa League casually would be acceptable, calling that “disrespectful.” A win over Stade Rennais would keep their Europa League dream alive.
