Habib Beye insists Marseille’s place in next season’s Europa League is something the club should celebrate, not dismiss, even if they fell short of the Champions League.

After the 3-1 home win over Rennes sealed fifth place, he reminded supporters that European qualification remains central to the club’s identity.

“We went out and earned this Europa League spot. It is in the club’s DNA, we mustn’t forget that,” Beye told Ligue1+ as he reflected on a noisy night at the Vélodrome. He recalled past Europa League memories in the same stadium, saying he had “seen a stadium on fire” on those occasions and stressing: “We must not devalue a European cup.”

Beye also pointed out how difficult it is to qualify for the Champions League year after year, even for Europe’s biggest teams. “Today we are 5th; we have to accept that and appreciate that we are in European competition. When you see the teams in the Europa League, you have to respect it,” he added, underlining that finishing strongly and securing this spot “is not a given for everyone.”
