Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has reportedly urged Al Hilal goalkeeper Yassine Bounou to consider a move to the Premier League champions following the Moroccan’s exceptional display in a recent Club World Cup showdown.
Bounou, who gained global attention during Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, was once again in the spotlight after a standout performance helped Al Hilal defeat City 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.
The win secured Al Hilal’s place in the next round of the tournament, where they will face Brazilian side Fluminense—fresh off eliminating Inter Milan.
Following the final whistle, Haaland was seen sharing a moment with Bounou, whispering something in his ear that quickly sparked a frenzy online.
Footage of the exchange circulated widely, with many suggesting the Norwegian forward was trying to persuade the 33-year-old goalkeeper to join him at the Etihad.
Speculation around City’s goalkeeping position has intensified in recent weeks, with Ederson’s future under Pep Guardiola being questioned.
However, the Brazilian shot-stopper dismissed rumours linking him away from the club.
“Some friends send me a lot of news but 99% is fake news,” Ederson told reporters.
“I understand you guys. You need the news to put a like on social media, or rant for the news. I understand but there’s a lot of fake news around my name.”
“My head is here. It stays with City. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club.”
While nothing concrete has emerged regarding Bounou’s potential transfer, Haaland’s apparent pitch has certainly added intrigue to the goalkeeper’s future beyond Al Hilal.
