Erling Haaland has called on Manchester City supporters to remain united and positive ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield.
City travel to face Liverpool in the sixth round of the Premier League, with Pep Guardiola’s side currently top of the table after taking a maximum 15 points from their opening five matches.
Haaland said he expected the supporters making the journey to Anfield to enjoy the occasion, while encouraging them to support the team regardless of the result.
“I think the City fans travelling to Anfield will have a good time,” Haaland said in an interview published on the official Manchester City website.
“We have to stick together. We have to stay with each other and we have to remain positive. Whatever happens in life, we should always keep smiling.”
The Norway striker added that City must focus on the present and try to secure another victory.
“So we have to stay positive, look forward and try to win football matches,” he said. “We have to try to enjoy the current situation and win the game.”
Haaland ended his message by repeating his appeal for togetherness among the club’s supporters and players.
“We have to stick together; we have to spread love among us,” he said. “So yes: let’s stick together, enjoy the journey and smile.”
The match comes as Manchester City face allegations that they breached 115 Premier League cases. The club has been accused in relation to those cases, while the matter remains part of the ongoing backdrop to the season.
City lead the standings with 15 points, while Liverpool are sixth on nine points.
Haaland is also the Premier League’s leading goalscorer, having scored five goals so far this season.
