The federation expressed surprise at the reports, affirming that John Mensah continues as the team captain, with Michael Essien serving as his vice-captain.
To dispel further speculation regarding the captaincy, the GFA provided insight into their selection process. In cases where Mensah and Essien are absent from the lineup, the most experienced player in the group will assume the captain’s armband. The federation underscored its commitment to the rule of assigning the captaincy to any experienced player when necessary during a match.
