The Saudi team Al-Khaleej, featuring Egyptian international Mohamed Sherif, faced a setback as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against their counterparts, Al-Ettifaq.
The match, held on Thursday evening, was part of the 20th round of the Roshan League competition.
Al-Ettifaq broke the deadlock with a goal from Dutch player Georginio Wijnaldum in the 49th minute of the second half.
Later, Demarai Gray added a second goal for Al-Ettifaq in the 61st minute of the game.
Mohamed Sherif participated throughout the match for Al-Khaleej and even scored a goal in the 91st minute, though it was subsequently disallowed after a VAR review.
Al-Ettifaq’s victory elevated their tally to 28 points, securing the eighth position in the Saudi League standings, while Al-Khaleej remained at 22 points, occupying the tenth spot in the championship’s rankings.
