Guinean winger Kandet Diawara has completed a move from France to Germany, signing for Bundesliga 2 side FC Magdeburg after an impressive season with Pau FC.
The 25-year-old, who previously came through the youth ranks at RC Lens and had a short spell with Le Havre, was drawn to the German club’s ambitions and vision.
Diawara’s journey to Magdeburg follows a strong campaign in Ligue 2, where he made 29 appearances for Pau, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
His performances caught the eye of the Magdeburg hierarchy, who were willing to finalise the deal despite the winger sustaining an injury late in the season that has kept him sidelined temporarily.
Sporting director Otmar Schork expressed confidence in the club’s new acquisition, highlighting both his technical attributes and his competitive edge.
Kandet is a promising winger, very good in duels. He will bring dynamism to our attack, Schork said, underlining the club’s belief that Diawara’s style will complement their attacking play.
Head coach Markus Fiedler also welcomed the arrival, praising the Guinean’s adaptability and ability to operate across different attacking roles.
The coach hopes Diawara’s skill set will inject fresh creativity and speed into a side that finished fifth in last season’s Bundesliga 2 campaign.
For Diawara, who has earned five caps with the Guinean national team, the move represents both a challenge and an opportunity to grow.
Wearing the number 39 shirt, he is eager to settle into his new environment.
I can’t wait to discover the stadium and my new teammates. FCM is an exceptional club, with an impressive history, he said, signalling his readiness to embrace the next stage of his career.
The transfer also marks another step in Diawara’s progression, from his early development in French football to making his mark internationally.
With the Bundesliga 2 known for its physical demands and high tempo, Magdeburg will be counting on his pace, flair and ability to break defensive lines as they aim for another strong campaign.
While he will need time to recover fully from his injury before making his debut, Diawara’s signing has already generated excitement among supporters.
For both player and club, the move to Magdeburg is being seen as a bold and ambitious leap – one that could further elevate the winger’s career and strengthen Magdeburg’s push for success in Germany’s fiercely competitive second tier.
