CD Leganés manager Borja Jiménez has provided an update on the conditions of Seydouba Cissé and Duk ahead of their upcoming clash against Getafe.
While Cissé is gradually regaining form following an injury, Cape Verdean forward Duk continues to struggle for game time.
Cissé’s careful comeback
Guinean midfielder Seydouba Cissé, a key figure in Leganés’ squad, is working his way back to full fitness after a spell on the sidelines.
The 24-year-old has featured in 22 matches this season, scoring twice in a total of 1,581 minutes on the pitch.
Speaking at a press conference, Jiménez stressed the importance of a measured approach to Cissé’s return, ensuring he avoids any setbacks.
“Individual performances are always tied to the collective, and each player has their own recovery path. Cissé is coming back from injury, and we are carefully managing his playing time to prevent any relapses,” he explained.
Despite his absence, Cissé remains a crucial component of Leganés’ midfield, and the club is hopeful that, with controlled minutes, he will soon return to peak condition and contribute to their push for promotion.
Duk’s struggles for game time
While Cissé is making steady progress, Duk finds himself in a more challenging situation.
The Cape Verdean forward, who joined the club this season, has played just 38 minutes across three league appearances.
In the recent match against Real Sociedad, he was given only three minutes on the pitch, highlighting his peripheral role in Jiménez’s squad.
Jiménez acknowledged Duk’s talent but pointed out that his integration into the team is taking longer than expected.
“He is a pure winger with power and speed, but he needs the team to supply him with the ball in his preferred areas. His profile is similar to players like Juan Cruz or Óscar,” the coach noted.
With limited opportunities so far, Duk will need to make the most of any playing time he receives to convince the coaching staff that he deserves a more prominent role.
Crucial period for both players
As Leganés continue their campaign, the coming weeks will be decisive for both Cissé and Duk.
The Guinean midfielder will aim to regain full fitness and reclaim his influential role in the squad, while the Cape Verdean forward faces a battle to earn his place in the team.
With Getafe next on the fixture list, Jiménez’s squad decisions could indicate the direction both players’ seasons are heading.
While Cissé is on track for a full return, Duk must find a way to prove himself before time runs out.
