Uganda Secures 2-0 Victory Over Guinea in AFCON Qualifiers
Uganda continued their promising run in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-0 win over Guinea on Wednesday. The Cranes, who had previously earned a valuable draw against Ghana, asserted their dominance early by scoring both goals in the first half.
Guinea’s hopes of a comeback were dashed despite improved play in the second half. Speaking after the match, Guinean midfielder Kamil Zayatte acknowledged Uganda’s strong organization and reflected on his team’s performance.
“We saw tonight that this is a well-organized team. We weren’t able to develop our game in the first half and were constantly behind on second balls,” Zayatte said. “We came into the second half with better intentions than in the first half. We managed to get this team moving, but unfortunately we weren’t able to come back.”
Looking ahead, Zayatte emphasized the need to learn from the defeat and focus on upcoming matches. “We had a challenge to face today against the Ugandans but unfortunately, it was not the case and I hope that today’s defeat will serve as a lesson for the next matches. We will have to try to take points against Ghana in the next two matches and continue on this path because today we completely missed our first half.”
With this victory, Uganda strengthens its position in the qualifying group, maintaining momentum as they aim to secure a place in the tournament in Morocco next year.
