François Zahoui Appointed as New Coach of AS Kaloum
François Zahoui, the former Ivory Coast national team coach, has signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with AS Kaloum, the reigning Guinean champions. Although the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, Zahoui aims to build a competitive squad and revitalize the club’s campaign in the African Club Champions League.
Interestingly, Zahoui’s first official match in charge will be against Séwé Sport of Ivory Coast during the weekend of February 13-15, 2015.
Born in 1961 in Treichville, Ivory Coast, Zahoui enjoyed a playing career as an attacking midfielder and striker from 1980 to 1990. As a coach, he notably led Ivory Coast to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations final, which they narrowly lost.
The coaching change at AS Kaloum follows the dismissal of Pascal Janin in December due to poor results. His assistant Olivier Januzzi was promoted to head coach temporarily, alongside club supervisor Mohamed Sylla Léandro, before Zahoui’s arrival.
