Guinean Football Mourns the Loss of Technical Director Faber Camara
Guinea’s national football team begins its 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Togo under a cloud of sorrow following the death of Faber Camara, the interim Technical Director of the Guinean Football Federation.
Camara passed away in Conakry during the night of Wednesday to Thursday, according to reports from APA. His sudden death comes just weeks after he was appointed to the role in August, succeeding Souleymane Chérif.
Though his tenure was brief, Faber Camara had already begun laying important foundations for the future of Guinean football. He was particularly committed to the development of the women’s game, having submitted a proposal to the Federation that included a 40-player shortlist for the formation of a national women’s team.
His passing is a significant loss to the Guinean football community at a critical time when the national team, Syli National, is navigating both the ongoing Ebola crisis and the challenge of qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tributes are expected from both the federation and the players as they prepare to honor his memory during Friday’s match in Casablanca.
