GUINEA: DUSSUYER “THE POOL OF PLAYERS IS NOT HUGE”

In preparation for the FIFA match against Iran on March 5, Guinea’s coach, Michel Dussuyer, opted to include four local players in the squad, unlike Cameroon, where no local players were called up by Volker Finke. Guinea’s national team, known as the Sily National, faces a challenge due to the limited number of players who compete abroad compared to other African nations like Cameroon, Ivory Coast, or Senegal.

Dussuyer acknowledges the scarcity of Guinean players in top clubs and leagues, except for a few like Kevin Constant and Ibrahima Traoré. He highlights the struggles of promising talent Sadia Diallo, who has faced difficulties in establishing himself during his time at Rennes and Lorient in France. Diallo’s transition from Guinea to European football has been challenging, emphasizing the need for continued development and adaptation to the European style of play.

Despite the obstacles, Dussuyer remains optimistic about building a competitive national team. He emphasizes the importance of nurturing young talent like Mohamed Yattara, Baissama Sankoh, and Idrissa Sylla, who have recently entered the international scene. However, he notes that their progress depends on regular playing time at their respective clubs, which is not always guaranteed.
