DUSSUYER WARNS GUINEA: “TOGO WIN MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT UGANDA VICTORY”
Despite a resounding 4-1 away win over Togo on Matchday 5, Guinea head coach Michel Dussuyer is keeping his feet firmly on the ground ahead of the crucial final AFCON 2015 qualifier against Uganda.
The French tactician, though pleased with his team’s performance in Lomé, cautioned his players against complacency:
“There are two parameters. We must remain focused on our game and on our objective, not believe that it has happened. I told them that the victory in Togo is useless if it is not followed by a victory against Uganda — it is fundamental.”
With Group E hanging in the balance, Guinea must win to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, while Uganda needs only a draw to make their first appearance at the tournament since 1978.
Dussuyer is wary of Uganda’s defensive solidity and tactical discipline:
“This Ugandan team is also there to cause us problems. I think they have caused everyone problems — they concede few goals. They are a team that is difficult to maneuver, so we will have our work cut out to find an opening.”
The decisive Guinea vs Uganda clash will take place on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, kicking off at 4:00 p.m. GMT.
This will be more than just a group game — it’s a final in all but name.
