Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano on Monday night, with notable inclusion Ansu Fati making his return.
The Guinea-Bissau-born youngster’s return marks his first appearance in a matchday squad since the game against Deportivo Alaves on February 2, where he hopes to contribute to the team’s pursuit of the top position in La Liga.
With a victory against Rayo Vallecano, Barcelona aims to leapfrog current leaders Real Madrid and second-placed Atletico Madrid, both of whom dropped points over the weekend.
This match presents a significant opportunity for the Catalan club to capitalize on their rivals’ missteps.
Fati’s call-up comes as he replaces Fermin Lopez, who is serving a suspension following a red card received during the match with Sevilla.
The young forward last played for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, where he helped secure a 4-0 win over Barbastro.
He was linked with a move away from the club but he chose to stay and fight for his place.
Additionally, Ronald Araujo has also returned to the squad, a move that Flick had expected.
However, Araujo’s participation may be uncertain, as he only partially participated in training and missed a session altogether.
With other players like Martinez, Cubarsi, and Garcia available, Flick may choose to rest Araujo to ensure he is fit for future fixtures.
